Explain in depth how the filming took place
Dima and I started filming on November 18, 2021. That Thursday morning, it was very foggy and we asked Mr. Wunker if we could go out on the rugby pitch to film some footage. We successfully filmed footage for our opening, the scenes we used were the ones where Elise was walking and she faded in the fog. Dima and I used an Olympus OM-1, and all the shots were handheld. Overall, this filming day is one of my favorite ones because we got a free fog effect and it really sets the mood of the scene differently. The fog gives off gloomy and mysterious vibes that is just perfect for the protagonist's character. For this filming day, I was doing the acting while Dima was doing the camera work.
(Clips and pictures of that foggy day)
The scene where Elise was washing her hands and a knife was shot in my apartment in the Harrow Residence. I filmed that shot alone and this was during the Chinese New Year Holiday which was around late January. For this clip, I used a gel lip tint as fake blood. It's actually realistic looking on camera but the only issue I have is since it's a gel tint, it stains the skin. I honestly think that the angle for this shot is not the best but I had a hard time setting up the tripod in my bathroom because it's not very spacious. I also think the lighting could've been better, overall I think our group's weakness is having consistent lighting because we shot both indoors and outdoors and the color matching is not the best.
The burning rose scene with various pills in the background was also shot in my apartment. This scene is used to show the title of the opening. The setup I did is I had a dried rose in a vase and then I made random sticky notes and wrote reminders about drinking medicines. I intentionally did that to foreshadow Elise's state. Aside from the sticky notes, also had a bottle of pills that I scattered on the table, this makes the foreshadowing stronger. I think this clip was really good because I was able to do everything in one take. This really helped me because I didn't have enough dried roses so if I wasn't able to do the shot in one take, I would've needed to change props.
For both of these scenes, I was able to shoot alone with the help of a tripod, I also used the Osmo DJI and connected it to my phone for the shots.
Below is the edited scene we used in the opening (clips from the foggy day & the burning rose)
For scenes that were taken in the sixth form room in Harrow, it was all taken last March 4, 2022. We shot all the scenes around 5 pm that's why there were no other people. This was nice because we wanted to imply the isolation of Elise's character from the whole school. In the scene, we also added a lot of props to show that she was busy doing school work but at the same also bother by voices in her head. This is when we also took insert shots of what Elise is writing. Dima did the camera work for this scene because I was the one acting. I am not very sure if it's noticeable but when we shot this I had eyelash extensions on so I was quite worried that in the next scenes that I didn't have the extensions anymore, there will be a noticeable change in my face. Dima and I really liked the natural lighting in this scene.
(In the picture below, my lashes are evidently longer)
For the scene wherein Elise was walking down the stairs, I was doing the lighting and Dima did all the camera work handheld. This was difficult to shoot because I was walking down the stairs while holding the lights and Dima was taking the video while walking down the stairs. I would actually even say that this was a dangerous way to shoot the scene because Dima couldn't see his steps because he was too focused on filming.
